Analysis of the Effect of Vehicle Density on Carbon Monoxide (CO) Concentration in Makassar City
Keywords:

Mobilization from one place to another using means of transportation is increasingly needed to support human life. However, the transportation sector is the most significant contributor to exhaust gas emissions caused by the increase in the use of motor vehicles, which increases from year to year. The study aims to determine the level of air quality due to the influence of motor density by using gas sampling tools, namely IMPINGER, and particles, namely HVAS. Data collection was taken together with data on the number of vehicles with a time interval of 1 hour for each research location, namely Jalan Simpang Lima Bandara, Jalan Sultan Alauddin, and Jalan Andi Pangeran Pettarani. Based on the results of the study, it is stated that the concentration of CO Gas on several roads in Makassar City is still within safe limits with the National Ambient Air Quality Standards. The average density of vehicles is the highest on Jalan A.P. Pettarani and the lowest average number of vehicles on Jalan Simpang Lima Bandara. The average SO2 level is 43.86 μg/Nm³, and the average CO level is 461.96 μg/Nm³. There is a relationship between vehicle density and CO gas concentration on several sections of Makassar City Road, with an average determination coefficient value of CO of 90.3%.
