Abstract

The problem of plastic waste has become a pressing global issue, with Indonesia producing more than 3.2 million tons of plastic waste per year by 2023. In Makassar City alone, the average waste generation reaches 1,139 tons per day, with more than 14% of it being plastic waste, equivalent to around 160 tons per day. Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) and Polypropylene (PP) plastic waste are the most common types and can be recycled after going through initial processes such as washing and shredding. This study aims to design a plastic waste shredding machine using a screw blade system with a capacity of 50 kg/hour. The design methodology includes needs identification, technical data collection, 3D modeling using Autodesk Inventor 2023 software, and technical calculations including power, torque, shaft dimensions, and component efficiency. The analysis results show that this design requires a motor power of 0.707 HP and has a rotation of 1400 rpm combined with a gearbox producing a rotation of 28 rpm on the knife shaft, with a chopping speed reaching 0.93865 kg / minute or 56.319 kg / hour. The chopping component used consists of 24 static and dynamic knives that produce 2688 cuts / minute. From the results of the design and technical simulation, this machine is proven to have good operational efficiency for both household and small industrial scales. This machine is expected to be an alternative recycling technology that is economical, environmentally friendly, and applicable in various areas with high volumes of plastic waste.
